The better option would be to go to the MOT testing station, where they should have a beam setter, and get them to adjust them correctly, so you're good for sure. Without being condescending, and to clarify given the original post; Any adjustments you so will be using the white plastic allen key adjusters, rather than the interior adjustment dial.
To adjust the height of the headlights independently you have to access the small white female allen bolt sockets behind the headlights in the engine bay. Relatively easy job.
